NBCI - Newman Breastfeeding Clinic and Institute
NBCI is situated in the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Canada. Our faculty consists of a multi-disciplinary team including guest lecturers who are specialized in their respective areas of lactation medicine.
A critical element of the Institute is the practical component (included in all programs) that fosters a unique level of competency when caring for the breastfeeding dyad. This practical component of the program is held at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic under supervision of the Institute faculty.
MISSION STATEMENT:

To promote the profession of the international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC)

To maintain professional consistent standards in lactation medicine.

To raise public and professional awareness of the importance of the IBCLC as an integral part of the health care team.

To increase the level of educational standards for the IBCLC and to encourage continuing education and standards of excellence in clinical practice.
OBJECTIVES:

Provide preparation for the IBLCE exam

Facilitate excellence and consistency in caring for the breastfeeding mother and infant

Ensure competency in dealing with breastfeeding challenges
- Instill a basic concept: By enabling the mother to manage her own breastfeeding experience, she will be empowered to reach her own breastfeeding goals.

Disseminate current and evidence-based research and practice

Create a forum for discussion of current social issues around breastfeeding and their effects on the breastfeeding dyad

Provide opportunities for observation, enabling the students to both shadow and mentor.
